In monitoring your blood pressure, you need to maintain the standard levels. To do this, you can monitor your diet and exercise. You can look to medications obtained from a physician or you can look at supplements.
Blood pressure is measured by the amount of blood moving throughout your body. There is an average blood pressure for adults. If your blood pressure is too high, you may need to regular your diet, lifestyle, or take medications.
There are dietary supplements that may be able to assist with regulation of your blood pressure.
Potassium is naturally occurring in foods, if you choose the right ones. In eating potassium rich foods, it can protect some people from even developing high blood pressure. Many fruits, vegetables, dairy foods, and fish are good sources of potassium. It is possible you can get enough potassium from your diet, so a supplement will not be necessary.
Another important vitamin is calcium. It has been shown that individuals with low calcium levels have higher rates of blood pressure. Unfortunately, it has not been proven that taking calcium tablets will prevent high blood pressure.
However, it is still important to be sure to get at least the recommended amount of calcium. This would be 1,000 milligrams per day for adults 19 to 50 years old and 1,200 mg for those over 50. This can be obtained from the foods you eat or from a supplement. Dairy foods like low-fat selections of milk, yogurt, and cheese are good sources of calcium. Low-fat and nonfat dairy products have even more calcium than the high-fat types.
A diet low in magnesium can also make your blood pressure rise. However, you usually will not need a supplement. It is recommended that you simple ensure you are getting enough magnesium in your diet. Magnesium can be found in whole grains, green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and dry peas and beans.
Another known blood pressure reducer is fish oils. Although the research is unclear, large amounts of fish oil can reduce your blood pressure. Again, a supplement may not be recommended, as there may be some side effects, such as the pills are high in fat and calories. However, in eating fish, which are low in fat and calories, you will get all of the omega 3 fatty acids you need. These can occur in many fish, but specifically mackerel and salmon.
Finally, garlic is suggested to have a blood pressure lowering effect. Garlic can also improve your cholesterol and reduce some risks of cancer. Again, garlic can be occurring in your foods or you can possible take a garlic supplement.
